Built on Consistency Since 1963

For more than 60 years, Aexcel has developed and manufactured coatings for roadways, parking lots, industrial settings, and specialty applications.

The company began in 1963 as DeSantis Coatings with three people, one high-speed mixer, a 10,000-square-foot facility, and no customers. Early growth came from traffic paint contracts for state, county, and city use, building a foundation in products where reliability and timing mattered from the start.

Today, that same discipline shows up in how Aexcel operates, from controlled production to long-term customer relationships.

Quality Is Built Into the Process

Every batch starts with inspected raw materials. Formulas are controlled. Paint is strained before packaging. Finished product is verified before shipment.

Refined over decades, this process helps Aexcel deliver consistent performance from batch to batch.

A Team with Long-Term Experience

Many employees have spent decades with the company:

  • 9 employees with 30+ years
  • 8 employees with 20+ years
  • 12 employees with 10+ years

That long-term experience helps keep production steady, preserve formulation knowledge, and give customers access to people who understand the real-world demands behind each order.

Facility Designed for Control and Production Scale

Aexcel operates a 70,000-square-foot facility in Mentor, Ohio, supporting a wide range of coating solutions and batch sizes.

The facility supports everything from development batches to full-scale production, with quality checks built into each stage.

Steady Through Decades of Industry Change

Since 1963, Aexcel has adapted through material shortages, changing regulations, market shifts, and evolving customer demands.

That history still shapes how Aexcel works today.

John Milgram continues the standards established by his father, Joseph B. Milgram Jr., carrying forward a long-term commitment to quality, fair dealing, and customer support.

The same approach continues to guide new product development, including BioStripe® Waterborne Traffic Safety Paint, AquaTough®, and other coatings shaped by changing performance and environmental needs.

Built to Support the Work

Aexcel has grown by doing the things customers remember: answering questions directly, solving formulation challenges, shipping dependable products, and standing behind the work.

As the coatings industry continues to consolidate, Aexcel remains focused on staying independent and responsive to the customers and distributors who rely on its products.

For distributors, that means products they can stand behind. For end users, it means fewer avoidable problems and coatings built for the work they need to do.
