For durable and long-lasting markings on roads and paved surfaces, AquaTough is a top choice. Developed by Aexcel Corporation, AquaTough is a 2-component paint specifically designed for durability and wear-resistance of roadways, parking lots, crosswalks, stop bars, and other heavy-traffic areas. This water-based paint is simple to apply with standard striping equipment on asphalt and concrete, or over existing lines. No special tools or abrasion are needed prior to recoating. Plus, cleanup is easy, requiring just water and a small amount of detergent.
With AquaTough from Aexcel, America's toughest traffic paint just got tougher. Learn more about what sets this product apart along with key specs and use tips for superior results.
AquaTough is versatile and easy to work with for streamlined traffic marking and lasting results.
Start with a dry surface free of debris, gravel, and loose material for best results. A quick pass with a leaf blower is usually sufficient. If applying AquaTough over existing paint, remove any loose or peeling layers. Areas with heavy oil buildup or epoxy coatings may require power washing or additional surface abrading. Allow new asphalt and concrete to cure for 30 days before painting, and avoid applying AquaTough on freshly sealed surfaces, as these can interfere with adhesion and curing.
Air and surface temperatures and humidity are important considerations for applying AquaTough paint. Avoid painting in temperatures below 60 °F, when humidity exceeds 80%, or if precipitation is expected within 24 hours. Avoid painting in the evening or at night due to the typically cooler temperatures at those times.
Glass beads or G3 anti-slip composite may be added to AquaTough to enhance reflectivity or traction. It is not necessary to reduce AquaTough before applying. Finally, always protect newly painted areas from traffic until fully dry.
Use equipment and storage containers made from stainless steel or other non-reactive materials to avoid reactions between the paint and container materials or product performance issues. Airless machines typically require a .019 in. to .021 in. tip size, while air-atomized machines perform well with .086 in. to .11 in. tips at 60 lbs. of pressure. Refer to the equipment manufacturer for further guidance on achieving the best results with water-based paint.
Store AquaTough in tightly sealed containers and protected from freezing temperatures. Stir or shake containers to thoroughly mix before use. This ensures an even consistency and application. To avoid “skinning” in partially filled containers, pour a thin layer of water on top of the paint. Always keep AquaTough containers tightly sealed and away from heat and flames, and refer to the MSDS for safety, first aid, and spill procedures.
Dispose of AquaTough and any related waste material according to local regulations. Consult with local agencies for proper disposal methods, as improper handling of hazardous materials can result in fines. By following disposal guidelines, you'll help keep our communities and environment safe.
